Yuzvendra Chahal is the most successful bowler in IPL history. From 2013 to 2025, he played 174 matches and picked up 221 wickets, making him the highest wicket-taker in the league.

Chahal has an impressive bowling average of 22.76, with an economy rate of 7.96 and a strike rate of 17.15. His best bowling figure is 5/40, and he has also taken two hat-tricks in the IPL. Known for his clever leg-spin and calm mindset, Chahal has been a match-winner for his teams over the years.

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 198 Wickets 

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been one of the most reliable fast bowlers in IPL history. From 2011 to 2025, he played 190 matches and picked up 198 wickets, with his best bowling figures of 5/19, a bowling average of 27.33, an economy rate of 7.69, and a strike rate of 21.32.

Bhuvneshwar achieved a rare feat by winning the Purple Cap twice in a row, in 2016 and 2017, making him the only player to do so consecutively. Apart from this, he is also a two-time IPL winner, lifting the trophy with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 and Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2025, proving his value in title-winning teams.

3. Sunil Narine: 192 Wickets 

Sunil Narine is one of the greatest all-rounders in IPL history and currently stands in the 3rd position among leading wicket-takers. Playing only for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from 2012 to 2025, he played 189 matches and took 192 wickets.

Narine’s best bowling figure is 5/19, with an excellent economy rate of 6.79, showing his control and impact. Over the years, he also evolved into a dangerous opening batter, capable of turning matches quickly. Narine has won three IPL titles with KKR in 2012, 2014, and 2024.

4. Piyush Chawla: 192 Wickets 

Piyush Chawla is one of the longest-serving spinners in IPL history, having played in the league from 2008 to 2024. Across the seasons, he has played 192 matches and claimed 192 wickets.

Chawla recorded his best bowling figures of 4/17, with a bowling average of 26.60, an economy rate of 7.96, and a strike rate of 20.05. He represented CSK, KKR, KXIP, and MI, and played a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL title victories in 2012 and 2014.

5. Ravichandran Ashwin: 187 Wickets 

Ravichandran Ashwin has taken 187 wickets in the IPL from 2009 to 2025. He played 221 matches and bowled with control and game awareness, finishing with a bowling average of 30.22, an economy rate of 7.20, and a strike rate of 25.18.

6. Jasprit Bumrah: 183 Wickets 

Jasprit Bumrah has taken 183 wickets in the IPL while playing 145 matches from 2013 to 2025, making him the best bowler of this decade. Bumrah has maintained an excellent bowling average of 22.02, an economy rate of 7.24, and a strike rate of 18.23.

His best bowling figures were 5/10. Remarkably, Bumrah has played only for the Mumbai Indians (MI) throughout his IPL career and has been part of five IPL title-winning teams.

7. Dwayne Bravo: 183 Wickets 

Dwayne Bravo has been one of the most successful all-rounders in IPL history. He played 161 matches and took 183 wickets from 2008 to 2022, making him the 6th-highest wicket-taker in the league.

Bravo recorded an impressive bowling average of 23.82, with an economy rate of 8.38. Bravo achieved a rare milestone by winning the Purple Cap twice, in 2013 and 2015, both times while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). 

8. Amit Mishra: 174 Wickets 

Amit Mishra has taken 174 wickets in 162 IPL matches from 2008 to 2024, making him one of the most successful spinners in the league’s history.

Mishra has an excellent bowling average of 23.82, an economy rate of 7.37, and a strike rate of 19.37. His best bowling figure of 5/17, and he is th only bowler to take three hat-tricks in the IPL.

9. Lasith Malinga: 170 Wickets

Lasith Malinga has taken 170 wickets in 122 IPL matches from 2009 to 2019, all for the Mumbai Indians (MI). Malinga’s best bowling figure is 5/13, and he maintained an outstanding average of 19.79, with an economy rate of 7.14 and a strike rate of 16.62.

Ravindra Jadeja is widely regarded as the best all-rounder in IPL history and stands as the 10th-highest wicket-taker in the league.
